St John’s is a united Church of England and Methodist Church. We belong to the Diocese of Bradford and the South Craven Methodist Circuit. Our parish includes Bradley, with the Anglican church of St Mary’s (and Bradley Methodist Church, with whom we work closely).

Our Sunday services are at present held at St.John’s, the Anglican church up Netherghyll Lane. The Church Centre, the Methodist church and hall on Main Street, is in “cold storage”, and the future of the building is not known at present.

The pattern of services is as follows: –
1st Sunday of the month
11.00 – Holy Communion or Morning Worship (led by a Methodist Minister or Local Preacher)

2nd Sunday of the month
11.00 – Holy Communion (Common Worship)

3rd Sunday of the month
8.00 – Holy Communion (Prayer Book)
11.00 – “Third Sunday Service” Something a little different – we might have a baptism, or often explore controversial issues in religion, ethics or politics.

4th Sunday of the month
11.00 – Holy Communion (Common Worship)

5th Sunday of the month (where applicable)
11.00 – Holy Communion (Common Worship)

Activity sheets are provided for children at the 11.00 services. At Christmas, Easter, and other special times of the year we hold extra services, and, sometimes, discussion groups during Lent. We aim to be a church for the community, and hope that our activities can be a spiritual resource for all.

We have a branch of the Mother’s Union and a Banner Group. Various fund-raising events, for church funds and charities, are held. A monthly church magazine (Onward) is delivered to around a third of houses in the village.

The Vicar of Cononley with Bradley, the Revd John Peet, who is also a Methodist Minister in the South Craven circuit, lives in the village, at 3 Meadow Close (01535 634369, email Please contact him for further information.
